It is thought by many, that almost all American citizens who reject ‘big government’ are anti-government. That, is like saying: People who are against overdosing on medication – are anti-medicine! The role of government is very, very, very important. But like having your own house in order, it is properly structuring the levels of government – which is imperative to maximizing Democracy & Liberty. To begin with, ‘federal government’ must become as small & efficient as absolutely possible – while returning more power to State governments. But most important of all, is to establish strong Local governments. And why? Because local government is where your community is located and where you live. There are thousands of communities across the U.S. and if each one had a strong local government
as well as a strong local economy, America would be stronger. But it starts with each and every individual, and
strong local governments is the key. For example: in which situation are you more recognized therefore, more adequately represented – when you are among a few thousand people (local government), or when you are among
Three hundred eighteen million (federal government)? Furthermore, ‘big government’politicians/lawmakers
say they know what’s best for your community – but how do they know? Do they live in your community? No – but
you do. Therefore, who knows what’s best for any community better than the people who actually live there. A great example on the importance of reducing/limiting the size & power of Federal govt., and returning more authority to State govt’s:
1869 – Iowa Supreme Court ruled that women may not be denied the right to practice law in Iowa and admitted Arabella A. Mansfield to the bar. Mansfield prepared for the bar exam by studying with her brother, Washington I. Babb of Mt. Pleasant. The examining committee for the bar stated that Mansfield’s admission was authorized, “not only by the language of law itself, but by the demands and necessities of the present time and occasion”. Arabella A. Mansfield was the first woman in the United States to be granted a law license. Nearly all 50 states/territories eventually did the same. But it wasn’t until the year 1964 (nearly 100 years after the STATE of Iowa
took the lead), that federal govt. finally got it’s act together.

Okay. But what about individuals States that lag behind, regarding other important issues? Yes, there are individual States that are more desirable than others but, it is not impossible for any U.S. citizen to relocate (move) to an alternative State that features improved social & economic policies! And it’s currently happening (also listed in chapter 5) – for example:
California, has the highest state income tax rates – and it’s population is ‘slowly but surely’ declining. On the other hand, Texas – which has no state income tax, is seeing it’s population grow!

Compare running our nation’s economy to a large project: the best way is simply break it down into smaller projects (State governments) and whatever number of available individuals or participants you have in each smaller project, are then divided into smaller groups (Local govt’s). And for larger local govt’s, they too would be divided into smaller groups (communities). As a result, each community benefits more, because each person is contributing more to his/her OWN local govt. This fundamental brings to mind one of the world’s oldest adages: ‘Divide and conquer’, which makes far more sense than a very small percentage of the U.S. population (federal government)
‘wishfully’ insisting they can successfully control each individual, every community and the entire U.S. economy.
Establishment politicians (those who have been in Washington D.C. far too long) are many times more likely (than non-establishment representatives/lawmakers) to increase tax rates and create new (additional) laws & regulations – and enforcing laws & regulations (etc. etc.) on American citizen’s that they (Establishment politicians) don’t follow!
Even with limited govt., the basic ‘role’ of elected federal politicians, is not only representing/legislating ‘The Will of the People’ on a national level, but just as much, to represent/legislate the will of the ‘American People’ on issues
outside U.S. territory! Are foreign affairs really that important?! Absolutely! Foreign affairs are of the utmost importance to the American People as a ‘Nation of individuals’. Foreign issues effecting Americans the most are: Protecting our borders & the American People, and increasing our standing in the ‘economic arena’ of International Trade (Fair Trade) and other U.S. interests that are extremely vital to America’s presence in the World! Domestic affairs generally pertain to Americans on an ‘individual freedom’ basis.
It seems ‘Capitol Hill’ has extreme likelihoods for corruption. When a potential ‘first term political candidate’ campaigns, he/she promises to serve ‘The Will of the People’. But as soon as an elected ‘first term’ (freshman) politician arrives in Washington, D.C., they are almost immediately indoctrinated by establishment/career politicians & special interests – as a result, the ‘people principal’ begins to diminish. This pathetic reality would be far less likely if ALL
elected federal politicians/lawmakers were required to live in the general areas of the citizens they represent! But not all federal politicians/representatives support big government and excessive taxation, and they actually defend individual freedom. Imagine that! There is actually a phenomenon known as a good federal politician. However, it seems the longer they serve in our nation’s capitol, the more disconnected ‘almost’ all of them become with the American people and the Voters who elected them! This unfortunately, produces ‘Low Information Politicians’! And as a result, too many politicians become part of ‘The Establishment’ (big government). This proves true – one of the oldest principles of human history: ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS!
Democracy is the only form of government, that ensures the rights of the individual citizen! However, the most efficient/sufficient method of democracy is: A Representative Republic, of which U.S. citizens elect
‘politicians/representatives/lawmakers’ to represent us in every level of government. Each member of the ‘U.S. House’ represents anywhere from several thousand to a few million people. The best ‘general summary’ of how our Representative system functions – on the federal level is: U.S. Representatives draft legislation (laws), then all 435 ‘reps’ are required to vote on whether or not, to amend (approve) specific legislation. Depending on a proposed ‘bill’, it either requires a two-thirds, three-fifths or simple majority vote to approve (pass) any/legislation. The general purpose of the U.S. Senate is to approve and/or critique legislation/laws passed by the ‘House of Representatives’, and sometimes submit their own legislation – or draft their own version of a ‘House’ bill, which then needs to be approved by the House, and then requires a ‘majority vote’ among 100 Senators. If and when passed by the Senate, the President
is granted authority to ‘critique’ or ‘veto’ any legislation – and if so, that specific legislation is then sent back to Congress for reconsideration. The ‘House & Senate” then can either over-ride a ‘presidential veto’ (usually with a two-thirds majority vote) or, successfully alter the same legislation to achieve ‘universal agreement’. The President is then required to enforce/implement amended legislation. A ‘Presidential Administration’ can also submit it’s own proposed ‘legislation & programs’, but these proposals must first be approved by the House, Senate and then signed into law by the President. Any & all legislation/bills approved and signed into law by the House, Senate and President, should only represent – The ‘Will of the People’ (as guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution)! Congress
also has the ‘Constitutional Authority’ to withhold/deny funds/spending (‘Power of The Purse’) for ‘any and all’ govt. programs & policies that are contrary to The ‘Will of the People’! These so called ‘operating procedures’ of a Representative Republic, is the best and most effective way to represent the American People on an individual basis – through ‘Representative Democracy’.
The American People (and all other peoples) should have enough control of their own governments (all levels), so that even with an erroneous ‘President & Congress’ – the results of ‘detrimental govt. leadership’,
would have minimal effect.
Regarding the assertion of ‘Presidential Executive Order’, it is commonplace for any U.S. President to use ‘executive order’ many times – pertaining to issues such as: allocating disaster relief funds to communities that have suffered catastrophes such as devastating weather events etc. ‘The U.S. Constitution’ also gives any President the authority to use ‘executive order’ for many other small-scale issues. Concerning ‘larger issues’ such as: Immigration, Foreign policy etc. etc., it is against the law (Constitutional Law) for any President to bypass the political process of the legislative branch (Congress), and rule as a dictator/tyrant rather than governing to ‘The Will of the People’ – of whom elect all Presidents. It is also just as wrong, for Congress to allow any U.S. President to rule as a dictator through ‘executive order’. Okay. But is big government always a bad thing?! The only way Individual Liberty can flourish and reach its full potential, is with limited government rather than growing the domestic reach of federal govt. to gain more ‘power & control’ of the American People! On the other hand, the more federal govt. grows, the more it becomes a ‘Ruling Class’. And a ‘ruling class’ is always ‘self-serving’ with little regard for ‘The Will of The People’ because the remaining population is looked upon as an ‘inferior/dependent group’. The end result establishes a Socialist Govt. – rather than a ‘Representative Republic’! Here is ‘general surmise’ of federal government:

This government structure is the best foundation for any Democracy/Representative Republic – which makes ‘The Will of the People’, top priority – as well as ‘Individual Freedom’ which is guaranteed in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, Freedom to Peacefully Assemble and the Right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances (when the citizens protest & demand change – regarding any government action or legislation that is contrary to: ‘The Will of the People’).

It seems that govt., at the federal level and in several cities & states, are becoming more & more oppressive towards their own citizens. What can we do?! There is a very realistic solution:
INDULGE/ACTIVATE – THE ‘ORIGINAL’ FOURTH BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT – AKA: WE THE PEOPLE! This Branch is by far, many, many times larger and has the potential of being ‘many times’ more dominant than all other levels of govt. combined (including federal govt.) – but only if ‘The American People’ choose to make it so! But why haven’t we heard of this more often? Because The Fourth Branch of Government, is considered ‘Private Sector’ – not ‘Public Sector’! And as the largest branch of govt., we can defeat the ‘big government monster’ by accessing several possibilities – such as:
A big #Solution…….. to politicians losing touch with their constituents and being ignorant to the yearning of
‘the people’ & their communities is: to amend legislation or – with a ‘Peoples Referendum, Initiative or Proposition’, requiring/mandating All federal politicians/lawmakers – to actually live in the State/areas of the citizens they actually represent! This would certainly create an environment where federal politicians/representatives would be influenced by the citizens of America’s communities to at least, the same degree as a self-serving President, Wall Street, Big Banks, Big business, Big donors to
‘politicians/lawmakers’, Corporate Attorneys, Trial attorneys, Lobbyists, Special interests, Establishment politicians etc. Politicians would then be much more likely to legislate in accordance to ‘The Will of the People’ rather than ‘dictating’ with consensus based on ‘Capitol Hill’ elitism. This would also save the
‘American Taxpayer’ hundreds of millions of dollars that currently fund ‘additional expense’ accounts
(primarily travel expenses) for politicians (in addition to their salaries). This type of ‘change’ would also reduce to a large degree, Pork Barrel Spending (revealed & listed in chapter 2), unnecessary govt. programs and unnecessary federal agencies/bureaucracies! In short: The American People should be the biggest & most influential lobbyists!
But what if politicians would refuse this #solution?! This is a situation where ‘THE ‘ORIGINAL’ FOURTH BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT’ comes into play! A ‘People’s’ Referendum, Initiative or Proposition is a
‘constitutional provision’, as guaranteed in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, that enables The American People (with a ‘majority vote’ or required number of signatures on a petition) to propose, approve & amend legislation, and also alter/change existing legislation – regarding public policy on most but preferably all issues – including the removal (or recall) & replacement, of ALL elected officials (including politicians) who do not serve ‘the Will of the People’. Yes, but the federal government of the United States of America has not formalized any of these rights! BUT THEY SHOULD! Especially because our Founding Fathers established federal govt. for the ‘primary purpose’ of serving the States (State govt’s) as well as The American People! The trouble is – many times, the majority has approved various measures but almost every time, usually one (1) Judge has blocked a specific measure – to give advantage to big government agendas & political correctness! When this happens, those same judges can and should be impeached A.S.A.P.! America can either be GOVERNED by The American People, or RULED by elitists who are in love with themselves & their own power!
AMENDMENT X – U.S. CONSTITUTION:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, OR TO THE PEOPLE. Sources: Cornell Law; Wikipedia
It is important to recognize that the States are the “boss” of the federal government! The states “hired” the federal government and set forth the rules as to how it should operate. The Constitution is a list of those rules. Just as a manager is expected to enforce company rules to manage employees, it is the responsibility of the states to enforce the Constitution to manage the federal government.

ARTIVLE V of The U.S. CONSTITUTION, gives States the constitutional responsibility to put an end to the Washington establishment.
In general terms, Amendment X of the U.S. Constitution reveals: The American People/Citizens are the highest priority & most relevant (at ALL levels of govt.) in regards to the ‘economic & constitutional’ structure of our nation! After all, ‘We The People’ employ (elect) individuals (politicians) FROM AMONG US – NOT ABOVE US, to conduct our nation’s business at ALL levels of Government:
1. We The People (American Citizens).
2. State Governments; City & Local Govt’s – Politicians (public servants) employed/elected by
3. Federal Government – Politicians (public servants) employed/elected by American Citizens &
….’Constitutionally projected’ to be managed by the States.
Another #Solution…….. to improving the ‘efficiency rate’ at all levels government (including federal), is to levy fines (deduct from his/her personal salary) on any/all politicians who do not Vote ‘yes or no’ on any/all
proposed laws & legislation – if they do not, then they are not fulfilling all their job requirements. Hey, if the rest of us (who work for a living) do not fulfill all our job requirements, we are either penalized or fired.
Our Founding Fathers, also included a provision to the U.S. Constitution – Article I, Section 2, Clause 5: Impeachment, which enables Congress to ‘impeach’ (remove) Judges with the same frequency of elections
(specifically – if they (judges) are rewriting laws against ‘The Will of the People’ & legislating from the bench!)! But doesn’t the President nominate federal judges? Yes – and VOTERS elect the President! Never forget, all personnel (politicians, judges, employees of all dept’s, agencies/bureaucracies etc.) at all levels of government – including the President, are ‘Public Servants’ or ‘THE PEOPLES EMPLOYEES’ – nothing more, nothing less!
They are hired, employed & work for The American People! The People DO NOT work for them!

SOUNDS GREAT! But if federal politicians/representatives were required to live in the areas they represent, then how would these same politicians vote on any bill or program if their not in Washington, D.C.? ELECTRONIC CONGRESS! We assume they all have Personal Computers, Electronic Tablets etc. etc. These tools would easily enable electronic signatures, ‘congressional voting’ and more!
Capitol Hill should be a very lonely place! I’m all for this! But how can this all be sufficient when committees/sub-committees debate the issues and draft legislation etc? Teleconferencing! And for the the really important conferences/discussions/meetings, traveling to the Nation’s Capitol (or anywhere else) once or even twice a month, would easily suffice! Furthermore, the reduced travel concept creates the opportunity for federal politicians and all their staffers to ‘put their money where their mouth is’, concerning their own proclamations of ‘man-made climate change’! If they really believe in this issue, they should be more than willing to do their part in helping to curb pollution – and in this case, pollution resulting from excessive air travel. LEAD & LIVE BY EXAMPLE! And by reducing Congressional air travel, the skies would be less crowded & safer (reduced loss of life)!
Another major principle to maximizing representation, regarding ‘The Will of the People’ is: Not only VOTING
for the candidate (concerning Federal politicians) from the group of contenders who represent your political ideology the most – but just as important: VOTING for the candidate who has most recently lived in your State
or your area of representation! And why? Those candidates will have a better understanding (similar to State politicians) of what it’s like to live in your corner of the World! This action would almost completely, eliminate
Establishment politicians and excessive control of the American People! But this can only happen ‘if & when’ more American citizens become more aware of the political world in which we all live, on a permanent day-to-day basis! However, the sad fact is, a large percentage of Americans who actually do vote, do not pay attention to politics until only a few days before an election. This needs to change!
The best & only sure way for a federal politician/lawmaker to fully represent any group of people, is to live among them! This would also help establish: MORE GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY & enable Citizens to make their elected ‘federal representatives’ MORE ACCOUNTABLE! Is the structure & functionality (operating procedures) of State govt’s, similar to Federal government? Yes, basically the same. But when elected govt. officials & politicians dictate against ‘The Will of the People’ to whatever extent, ‘Individual Freedom’ is diminished to the same extent!
If the American Citizens should be in charge of their own destiny – then wouldn’t it be better for the majority of all voters to elect the U.S. President – rather than the Electoral College?! The President represents ALL 50 United States! Therefore, shouldn’t ALL 50 States elect the U.S. President?! Congress created the Electoral College (specifically ‘delegates’) in 1778. What was the purpose? Back then, the vast majority of Americans lived in the 13 Coastal Colonies (which eventually became States). The remaining Citizens lived further inland – and mostly in U.S. territories beyond the Colonies. These remaining Citizens were responsible for more than half of the food & clothing production. Because of this, our Founding Fathers feared that if these remaining Citizens did not have a legitimate voice in electing the President, they could and probably would boycott the sale/availability of their production (food, clothing etc.) In today’s world – the same ‘dire potential’ could also ‘loom’ large! The Central (U.S.) States are responsible for approx. two-thirds of U.S. food production – including the majority of meat & bread, bio-fuels and ethanol, plastics for a variety of products and the majority of U.S. domestic oil production – among several other products & commodities, which are vital to the existence & preservation of all American Citizens! At least three of these States are also responsible for the majority
production of steel, steel products and a substantial percentage of manufactured cars, trucks & most other motorized vehicles that are vital to the ‘mobility & transportation’ for practically all Americans & consumer goods! Therefore, shouldn’t these ‘Producing States’ have as much (if not more) ‘clout’ as the remaining population – when electing the President?! After all, America certainly, wouldn’t want to experience a shortage of food, fuel, cars & trucks, and most other products!

But the Electoral College is based on population, and there are federal govt. proposals to rezone the Electoral College according to population increases. Isn’t that the best way? No – that is the problem!
#Solution…….. The Electoral College should be rezoned (re-delegated), based on American Production – per
citizen (on a State by State basis), rather than States/areas that are experiencing population increases – mostly because of illegal immigrants & welfare recipients! THE BOTTOM LINE: Americans who produce more than they consume should be as much (if not more) a determining factor (when electing the U.S. President), as those who consume more than they produce! This same solution would also inspire more Americans to become more productive & America more prosperous!
Okay. But if the President represents all 50 States, who then represents the individual American Citizen? First of all, ‘each & every’ citizen is his/her ‘own’ best representative. After that, it is elected local officials for Local & City governments – then elected Representatives for State & Federal Govt. The ‘general’ U.S. population is represented by population according to ‘congressional districts’ & U.S. Representatives. But, it is the responsibility of ‘The American People’ to be fully represented within any/all laws & legislation! Then, it is the responsibility of elected representatives/politicians to negotiate and provide ‘the details’ (specifics) of any laws & legislation. The President – by ‘Constitutional Law’, is then required to implement/enforce ‘The Will of the People’!
At the same time, a ‘Peoples Referendum/Initiative’ should be used ONLY when absolutely necessary! These measures should be thoroughly debated for full consideration before any actions are pursued. Preferably, we would rather give our elected representatives/lawmakers, every opportunity to do their job – that’s why we elected them! If the dynamic of a ‘Peoples Referendum’ is not respected – by ‘The People’ it unfortunately, could & ‘more than likely’ would lead to Anarchy (MOB RULE)! But remember, ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ employ/elect
representatives/lawmakers! Therefore, ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ ARE IN CHARGE! Furthermore, a ‘Constitutional provision’ enables (potentially) The American People to create, approve (by VOTING & petitioning) & amend legislation, alter existing legislation and impeach or recall politicians/lawmakers and judges! The potential action (in itself) of this ‘Constitutional option’, should be enough to keep EVERYONE in all levels of government – honest and completely ‘in tune’ with ‘The Will of the People’!
We The People, need to take back our Country – and achieve more ‘Power & Control’ of our Government!
‘Self governing’ on the other hand, is the worst policy. Why? Because, approximately 243 million individuals (adults) would be doing things according to at least 243 million different ‘sets’ of rules! Total chaos would ensue. As a result, each individual would live under his/her own rules. How then is it possible for any individual to be tolerant to all the rules of millions of other individuals? Such as: “Hey man, I have my rules and you have yours – but your rules suck”! Self Governance just doesn’t work. The alternative to ‘self governing’ is individual responsibility (which includes: VOTING, (participating in your community & local government etc.). Also being responsible for your own actions is of the utmost importance even when the results are negative – instead of complaining and/or putting the blame on something or someone else. Furthermore, America would be stronger if fewer people had the mindset, that ‘it isn’t necessary’ to be honest and sincere all the time.

Our founding fathers: * George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison (father of ‘The Constitution’), Benjamin Franklin, Sam Adams, John Hancock (first President of the Continental Congress). Also included are: Abigail Adams – advisor, wife, and mother of presidents. Ethan Allen – military and political leader in Vermont. Richard Allen – African-American bishop. Nathanael Greene – army general. Nathan Hale – captured U.S. soldier executed in 1776. Patrick Henry – Virginia governor. John Paul Jones – navy captain. Dolley Madison – wife of President James Madison. John Marshall – fourth Chief Justice of the United States, and ‘several others’ * knew exactly what they were doing (and for all the right reasons) when they divided our nation into State Governments, rather than giving all control to a central government authority (big government). State Governments, (and eventually Local & City govt’s etc.) grew in number – relative to the growth of U.S. population. Again, our founding fathers did this on behalf of the ‘common American citizen’ rather than their own power and personal gain.
By the way, * Patrick Henry (Virginia Governor) who declared: “GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH”, did not attend the 1st national (federal) convention prior to the signing of ‘The Declaration Of Independence’, because he believed that State Government was far more important and interesting than federal govt.
